Fanis Gavalas – Owner, founder, guide
I had the blessing of being born and raised in Iraklia indulging in a childhood and adolescence abundant with the colors of the Aegean sea and the flavor of natural products of my island. As an adult, I moved to the capital to study Mechanical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens. After some years of working in the city I realized that I could not live far from nature and returned with my wife to Iraklia. Putting my engineering skills to practice, we built Villa Meltemi, our deluxe guest house business. As a lover of the outdoors myself, and a son of a mathematician-turned-ecologist who has studied the biodiversity of our island, I became passionate to share the experience of my island with you. Thus, Discover Iraklia was born! Meeting new people and introducing them to the island I grew up and loved has fulfilled a childhood dream of mine!
Nektarios Kovaios – Guide
I was born and raised in Iraklia. I studied Electrical Engineering at the Technological Educational Institute of Chalkida. I am a sport lover and as a native of Iraklia, I have first-hand experience that nature is the very foundation of many sports. Simply put for me, nature and sports are a way of life. I like extreme sports and do competitive arm wrestling having won numerous championships. I am looking forward to accompanying you on the historic trails of the island and sharing with you the beauties of my birthplace!

I was born in France, raised in Greece and many other spaces in between but mostly keen on exploring ‘heterotopias’ ! Over 9 years I pursued academic studies in Sociolinguistics, Theater, Sustainability and Sciences of Education culminating in 2018 in co-founding sChOoLwithOuT frOntiers. My love for the Cyclades and my training as a nature guide with french teams brought me to Iraklia…it is time to explore together, with joy, with Out frontiers !
